May 17, 2003 marked the celebration of the 49 th anniversary of the decision rendered in Brown vs. The Board of Education.   The Damon J. Keith Collection, along with a host of sponsors and collaborators including Wayne State University and the University of Michigan hosted a Gala at the Detroit Institute of Arts.   The Gala came on the heels of the successful exhibition of Marching Toward Justice at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.
